The story of pianist
Albert Baarsma
At the age of six, I took my first steps into the world of piano, captivated by the magic of the keys. I was so passionate that I would rush to play the piano right after school, still wearing my backpack. Initially, I learned Classical music, and later delved into jazz, blues, and pop. My learning journey was largely self-taught, and in total, I only had 3 years of formal lessons.
After studying tropical forestry, I sought my life's purpose in various roles – from sales to marketing, even venturing into programming. However, nothing truly resonated with me.
One day, as I walked past a hotel restaurant with a piano, I thought, "I can play well enough to perform there as a lounge pianist." And that's what I started doing in 2020.
Lounge pianist
When you start earning money with your hobby, something changes. For me, it meant that I was much more motivated to improve on the piano. Consequently, each year, I became technically better and learned many new songs.
Bands
In addition, I joined various bands, such as Amy's Legacy, an Amy Winehouse cover band, and my own band 'Felicia and the Jazz XP.' During my studies, I also played as a hobby in 'More or Less,' a rock band in Arnhem.
Original Music
As a hobby, I have always been writing my own music, and recently, I took a good look at my collection. I have composed more than 100 songs in various styles, although I predominantly focus on jazz music.
Content creator
In 2022, I embarked on a journey as a content creator, initially on TikTok and later on YouTube. My passion for creating videos found its outlet in this modern form of self-expression. It is not only enjoyable, but I also recognize the power of these platforms in promoting my musical journey and creating new opportunities. I believe that nowadays, it is the most effective way to both grow artistically and contribute to my income.
Musician's Vision
As a musician, my ultimate goal is to create an experience that deeply resonates in the hearts of my audience. I aim to build an atmosphere that speaks the universal language of emotions. Music connects, and I hope to build an audience that connects with each other through my music. An additional aspiration would be to bring like-minded people together through my own concerts, creating an environment for them to enjoy music together.
